Okay… ONTO THE GLUTEN-FREE GOODNESS!!
WHAT'S COOKING LOS ANGELES?!
1. New Plant-based dessert shop (V & GF options) opens in West Hollywood
Urban Dessert Lab - This beloved, black & woman owned dessert shop just opened up it’s first location in West Hollywood (originally in NY). They’re known for being “the world’s first oat milk ice cream shop,” and now carry a variety of creative plant-based desserts. Lucky for us, their ice cream base is dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free, soy-free and gluten-free! Many of their sauces and toppings are DF & GF as well. Check out some photos from their Instagram 🍦🍧🍨:
2. Modern Bread & Bagel opens up a new location in Santa Monica
Modern Bread & Bagel - If you haven’t gotten a chance to try this entirely gluten-free spot in Woodland Hills, you’re in luck! A new location opened up several months ago on in Santa Monica (on Montana where Breadblok’s flagship store used to be). I wrote about this spot in the 5th issue of The Choosy Foodie. Their GF bagels are NY-style (kettle boiled), and they have vegan shmear options. Their food is delish! Check out some photos from their Instagram🥪🥯🍰:
3. Check out this plant-based French patisserie pop-up w/GF options
MAISON MACHA - Pastry Chef Macha Eliad opened up Maison Macha in 2020 and her handmade, locally-sourced, plant-based patisserie are flawless. You can pick up some of these delectable desserts from her commercial kitchen in Culver City or the Mar Vista Farmers Market. There are a handful of gluten-free options to choose from as well. Check out some photos from their Instagram🍰🍪🍮:
4. Don’t miss this vegetarian Thai food spot in Silverlake
Bulan Thai Vegetarian Kitchen - This Thai food spot in Silverlake recently made Eater LA’s top spots in Silverlake. Their menu has a ton of vegan and gluten-free options to choose from - apart from the fact that they’re completely vegetarian. You can choose protein options like tofu as well as faux shrimp, chicken, and steak. Check out some photos from their Instagram🍜🍚🫛:
5. Don’t miss this plant-forward Mexican restaurant with a V & GF menu in Silverlake
De Buena Planta - This Mexican food spot is unique in that their menu is all vegan and gluten-free unless marked otherwise w/notes like (G) for gluten or (D) for dairy. Their Silverlake location opened in 2022, and has an upscale beachy vibe with comfy seating areas. You can find a lot of delicious tacos filled with cauliflower, potato, and/or mushroom amongst other classic menu items. Check out some photos from their Instagram🌮🌽🫔:

Great roundup! I went to De Buena Planta a couple of summers ago when I was out in LA for work. It was so cute! And I'm so glad you finally have Modern Bread out on the West Coast!
Thank you so much for including my recipe! That made my day!
